Position Overview
The Master Controls Technician is responsible for overseeing, maintaining, and troubleshooting the controls systems, specifically Programmable Logic Controls (PLCs), that keep our operations running smoothly.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
· Perform routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of PLCs and other control systems.
· Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for PLCs to ensure optimal performance.
· Configure, program, and integrate new PLCs and related control components.
· Design and implement control strategies using PLC programming languages such as ladder logic and RSLogix.
· Collaborate with engineering and production teams to identify and resolve control system issues.
· Install and commission HMI interfaces and establish communication protocols for PLCs.
· Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for control system failures.
· Keep accurate records of maintenance activities and update documentation as needed.
· Train and mentor junior technicians on advanced PLC programming and controls systems integration.
· Stay current on industry trends and new technologies in PLC programming and controls systems.
· Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency and reliability of control systems.
Requirements
· Advanced programming skills in PLC languages such as ladder logic and RSLogix.
· Proficiency in configuring, programming, and integrating PLCs with industrial networks.
· Strong understanding of HMI systems, communication protocols, and electrical schematics interpretation.
· Ability to perform root cause analysis, troubleshoot control system issues, and implement corrective actions.
· Experience in designing and implementing control strategies for optimized system performance.
· Ability to work independently and in a team environment with excellent problem-solving skills.
· Prior experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting is preferred.
· Certification in PLC programming or related field is a plus.
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or equivalent; technical degree or certification in electrical engineering or related field preferred; Minimum of 5 years of experience in controls maintenance, with a focus on PLCs.
Food Safety & Quality Requirements/Responsibilities:
· Adheres to all Food Safety/Quality SOP’s
· Accurately completes required Food Safety & Quality Records
· Communicates any known or suspected Food Safety/Quality issues to the QA Manager and Department Manager
· Attends all Food Safety/Quality training sessions

While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is required to stand for long periods of time, walk and lift, push or pull material frequently, that can weight up to 50 pounds; Frequent twisting, turning, reaching, pushing and pulling, constant use of hands to fingers, handling and feeling objects, tools or controls is required; Must reach with hands and arms; Climbing stairs, balancing, stooping, kneeling or crouching on a regular basis; Must be able to talk and hear.
Work Environment
Work is normally performed in a warehouse/production environment. As part of the job requirements employee may be exposed to working in a cool setting and cold temperatures (45 degrees) at times; Facility regularly processes known food allergens including peanuts. Must be flexible with work schedule that supports a 24-hour operation. Schedule may include weekends, holidays, and mandatory overtime.
